Hi Colleen! I am really loving this series on protein (and I'm excited for the upcoming one on perimenopause/menopause!), because I'm 41 and starting to take this all more seriously. I've become a lot more active in the last year, and am now honing in on nutrition. I am currently 215 lbs (down from 270 a few years ago!). It's a bit discouraging though, because even .80 grams protein per pound of body weight would be 172 grams of protein a day! That feels like... a lot. 😳 I did hear someone say once that you should calculate based on your "ideal" body weight, have you heard that? Any tips or thoughts about that? I know just trying to eat as much as I can would be better than nothing.

Yes! I say that in the episode!! Absolutely, Carolyn. You're doing all the right things, and that's exactly how you should calculate your daily protein consumption! Determine your safe, reasonable, ideal weight (which I say in the episode), and determine your protein intake based on that. That's amazing you've lost 55 pounds! Well done, and let me know how else I can support you. xo

Thank you so much! I even went back and re-listened to the episode and I must have just missed that part again (but I guess the message got through subliminally anyway πŸ˜‚). I am truly excited for this new journey of self-care. I've been vegetarian for 10+ years (with phases of being more vegan... and we do eat mostly vegan at home now). But until now, I've always generally brushed off the whole protein debate, because most of the plant-based doctors claimed that we didn't need as much protein as the "health industry" seemed to say that we did. But now that I'm getting older and more active, and also hearing more trusted sources (like you) talk about it, I'm finally looking at it differently! I just ordered some protein powder and creatine from Complement (I'd already been taking their essentials supplement for years), and I'm excited to see where this journey takes my health and fitness! Thank you thank you again for talking about all this, Colleen! πŸ™πŸΌπŸ’–

Really appreciated the tip at pod end re trying for 25 grams of protein per meal and 15 per snack. That's easier for me to wrap my head around.
