I really enjoyed this podcast because everything about this year is going to be new for me. My husband had a long illness starting in May of last year and passed away on Thanksgiving day so the holidays for me and our three kids, who are all adults, was obviously a difficult time. I’m looking forward to this new year and looking to see what I want to do going forward so this was very inspiring , thank you.

Hi Judy. My deep, heartfelt condolences for the loss of your husband. I can't imagine what the last year must have been like for you and now what the days have been like since Thanksgiving. I can't tell you what it means to me that my lil' podcast has played any role in your journey. Thank you so much for sharing, and stay close. xo

Great episode, Colleen! Regarding alcohol, last October I stumbled upon a book called “This Naked Mind: Control Alcohol” by Annie Grace. I really love beer and had no intention of quitting, but by the time I got to the end, I decided to take an indefinite break and haven’t had a drink since. I’m sure at some point I’ll bring alcohol back into my life. For now though, I just want to keep the abstinence going.

What makes Annie’s approach different is that she really addresses both the physical and psychological aspects. There were many things she mentioned that hit home for me like how the next drink was preoccupying my mind too much. Her approach is to make you not want alcohol rather than relying on will power and facts.

Lastly and most interestingly, I found a lot of parallels to veganism. Our society and culture brainwash us into thinking alcohol is normal, acceptable, and practically essential to being happy. There’s the aspect of doing something that seems like deprivation but then opens up other options and benefits. There are social hurdles to plan around. And there’s the cognitive dissonance where we know that alcohol is unhealthy, but we are conditioned to drink it in certain situations.

I’d be very curious to hear your thoughts if you decide to check out this book and I hope others decide to read it also. Take care.
