Such a beautiful post. Thank you for sharing. You have made me rethink the columbarium I have reserved for my parents as the "rules" re inscriptions are ridiculous. I look forward to reading and seeing your most thoughtfully designed tombstone.
So wonderful you've made that decision. It's such a weight off your shoulders.
I too was struggling about this, as I wanted something zero waste to be done with my body, rather that cremated or embalmed/buried. A friend told me about UCLA's Donated Body Program. I filled out an application and was accepted! When I die my entire body will be donated to science and used for research and/or education. When they are done, any remains are cremated and the ash scattered at sea. They have memorial ceremonies for people to attend if they wish. I am so excited I found this option! I tell everyone about it. I love the opportunity to give back even after I'm gone. They give you a card to carry with your driver license so if necessary emergency personnel can contact UCLA. Oh and it's zero cost!
It’s good to decide and plan well In advance , so that the whole family knows your plans .We decided a long time ago ,that when we die there will be no celebration , wake or marker . Just a pure cremation ,where the body is collected and ashes returned without anyone being present at any part of it . We’ve just lost both of our beloved pets in the last five months , and which ever one of us dies last will be cremated with the urn of the other and both pets .
Oh, Julie. I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your babies recently. It's so, so hard to love so much and lose too soon. I write this as Michiko sleeps on my lap, and I cherish every moment, until I too...will be with you. xo

Thanks, Tracy! Will be finalizing the text for our stone when we're in Japan! :)
